The consequence of time: aging
Maggie Reyes
Aging is part of every living organism; it is a consequence of time. Despite messages in mainstream media, aging is not a disease but a life process that starts at birth. Everyone ages differently and how you age depends on genetics and lifestyle.
Human aging
As we grow older, our body experiences progressive and irreversible changes. Our organs star deteriorating and inevitably, our bodily functions begin to slow down. Early decline begins before the first visible signs and can vary according to individuals. On average, our body starts digressing around the age of 30.
Different ways to age
The aging process is different for everyone. According to Deepak Chopra, there are three different ways to calculate age :
- Chronological age: when you were born
- Biological age: the physical state of the body
- Psychological age: a persons mental state
Signs of aging
While the severity of aging varies according to genetics and lifestyle, there are general signs that everyone eventually experiences. They include:
- Tiredness
- Insomnia
- Memory loss
- Wrinkles
- Loss of libido
- Menopause (women)
- Prostate troubles (in man)
- Weaker vision
- Muscular weakness
- Poor immune system
